Steps to Measure for your New Garage Door

Step #1 - Measure existing door width and height in feet and inches. This determines the size of the door needed. The rough opening should be the same size as the door. Width: ____ Height:_____

Step #2 - Measure for side room: 3-3/4" is required on each side for installation of the vertical track for standard extension or torsion springs. Left side room _____ Right side room _____

Step #3 - Measure the area labeled "headroom" - distance between the top of the door opening "jamb header" and the ceiling or "floor joist". 10" is required for standard installation of extension spring. 12" on standard torsion springs. If you have restricted headroom, special hardware is available. Low headroom hardware is available to reduce requirement to as low as 4-1/2" minimum with standard extension spring. Note: If door height extends above the opening, the headroom measurements should be adjusted accordingly. Existing Headroom: _____ Headroom Needed: _____

Step #4 - Measure area labeled "backroom." Distance is measured from the front ceiling to the back wall of the garage. Backroom: _____

Does LiftMaster Support HomeLink?

Yes, LiftMaster supports HomeLink.  If a car was manufactured before 2006 with HomeLink you will be required to purchase a repeater kit in order for their car to work with the LiftMaster 8550 opener. These kits are available from Wayne-Dalton of Syracuse at no charge with the purchase of a new LiftMaster 8550 opener. If your car was purchased between 2006 and 2012, you can check to see if the car is compatible with the 8550 by clicking on this link http://www.homelink.com/program/process if not you will need a repeater kit. In 2013, HomeLink should be compatible with all new LiftMaster garage door openers and will not require a repeater kit. If your car has Car2U (which has three yellow LED lights and can be found in some Ford and GM products), which is not supported by HomeLink or LiftMaster, the customer will have to purchase a repeater from Car2U. LiftMaster does not stock or manufacture these repeater kits, Car2U is not associated with LiftMaster or HomeLink, and LiftMaster has no agreement to work with Car2U. If you need further information on this system click on this link http://www.learcar2u.com/repeaterkit/
